This Privacy Policy explains how Claire Stockton (“Claire”, “I”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, stores and protects your personal information when you visit clairestockton.co.uk, join the newsletter, or get in touch. I am committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Claire Stockton is an independent author, based in the United Kingdom, publishing books including Finding Finley and the forthcoming Isla Rose and the Penny Wishes. This website shares news of Claire's writing, events and books.
For the purposes of data protection law, Claire Stockton is the “data controller” responsible for your personal data. You can reach us by email at hello@clairestockton.co.uk or through the contact page.
I only collect information I genuinely need. Depending on how you interact with the site, this may include:
I use your personal data only where the law allows. The table below sets out what I do and the lawful basis for doing it.
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Respond to your message and any question you send | Legitimate interests — to reply to enquiries you have chosen to send us |
| Send you the newsletter you signed up for | Consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Measure and improve how the website performs | Consent (analytics cookies) |
| Protect the site and its forms from spam and abuse | Legitimate interests — site security |
Claire's newsletter is managed through MailerLite, which stores your email address and sends the emails on our behalf. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time — when you do, your address is removed from the mailing list. We never sell or rent your email address.
Our website uses cookies. Non-essential cookies — such as Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager) and Microsoft Clarity — are only set after you accept them through our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.
I do not sell your personal data. I share it only with trusted service providers who help run the website, and only to the extent necessary. These include:
Some of our providers (such as Google, Microsoft, Cloudflare and MailerLite) may process data on servers outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement / Standard Contractual Clauses — so your data receives an equivalent level of protection.
I use appropriate technical and organisational measures to keep your data secure, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), spam protection on the forms, and limiting access to personal data to those who need it. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@clairestockton.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is normally no charge.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first so we can put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date. Please check back periodically.
