About Claire

A life full of stories worth telling

Mother, writer and healthcare professional, Claire writes from the heart about the moments that shape us, and the resilience it takes to keep going.

Claire with her family

Claire's own story is woven with the same thread that runs through her books: resilience, hope, and finding light in unexpected places.

Away from writing, Claire works as an Operating Department Practitioner and Surgical First Assistant in a hospital in York. It is work that has taught her a great deal about care, courage and the quiet strength people find in difficult moments, and much of that finds its way into her writing.

In 2012 she carried the Olympic torch through her community, a moment she still counts among her proudest, and she has also had the honour of meeting the Queen. She has stood on mountain summits, raised a remarkable family, and along the way discovered that the truest stories are the ones we live.

When she is not writing or at the hospital, you will usually find her at an ice hockey game, at a gig or festival, out walking, spending time with family, or travelling. Her favourite evenings are the quiet ones at home, with a hot chocolate beside the log burner, snuggled up with her Siamese cat, Willow.

She lives in the countryside with her family, where a wishing well, a much-loved garden and a writing room called The Chapter keep the ideas flowing.
